Allen & Hoshall was tasked with transforming an existing printing press facility into the new Athens Animal Shelter. The renovation project consolidated all structures from the previous animal shelter into a singular, cohesive facility under one roof. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for animals, while also catering to the needs of the staff who care for them.
The renovated Athens Animal Shelter featured a comprehensive design that meets the needs of both animals and staff. Key elements include:
- Kennels and Dog Run Areas: The facility includes 35 spacious kennels and designated dog run areas, all designed for comfort and ease of maintenance.
- Veterinary Facilities: Fully-equipped veterinary spaces ensure that animals receive necessary medical care onsite, including a dedicated dog washing area.
- Meet and Greet & Pet Adoption Spaces: Welcoming areas designed to facilitate pet adoption, allowing potential adopters to interact with animals in a comfortable setting.
- Consolidated Indoor Spaces: All animals are housed within the structure, protected from the elements. The design allows for all feeding, cleaning, and care activities to be performed indoors, ensuring a safe and efficient operation.
- Staff Facilities: The shelter includes office space for staff, along with a lounge, kitchen, showers, and restrooms to support the well-being and productivity of the team.
- Additional Space: Laundry, food preparation, and storage areas have been integrated into the design to streamline daily operations and ensure a high standard of care for the animals.
