Minority firms got nearly 30% of Electrolux plant construction

Electrolux Home Products Inc. has exceeded the minority participation goals for its southwest Memphis manufacturing facility.
The latest report showed minority firms accounted for $27.6 million, or 29.6 percent, of the $93.1 million project.
The company, which received numerous incentives for the 1,200-employee project, had a 15 percent minority- and women-owned firms goal for construction. Of the minority firms, Gipson Mechanical had the largest contract with $10.3 million.
Brighter Days and Nights Inc., a commercial lighting company, was awarded $5.5 million worth of work while SMS Contractors earned $3.3 million for its part.
A-1 Electrical Contractors was awarded $2.8 million in contract work. MJ Contracting received $1.8 million and MIG Construction Services got $1.1 million.
The rest of the minority firms were awarded contracts of less than $500,000.
W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Co., a Philadelphia, Miss.-based company with an East Memphis office, is the project’s general contractor.
