Hiring for Byhalia plant likely to start in 2014

Insulation maker Roxul plans to complete all design and permit work in 2012 and break ground on its planned $130 million Marshall County plant near Byhalia in early 2013, say company officials.
The company, a unit of Rockwool International, has selected Allen & Hoshall of Memphis as the main civil design firm. The project engineering team will be locating in the area this summer.
“Two local engineers already have been hired, and the company expects a financial/cost-control position and a few other key roles will be filled in 2012,” Roxul president Trent Ogilvie said Friday.
Plans for the plant were first announced Thursday.
The company expects the plant will start operations in the third or fourth quarter of 2014. The company has not yet finalized its hiring timeline but anticipates that hiring likely will not begin until the start of 2014. The plant is expected to employ 150 people when fully operational, a development hailed by the state-local industrial recruitment team and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant.
Ogilvie said Roxul’s decision to select the Byhalia area for its new plant mostly was driven by the area’s proximity to markets in the South, “which allows for the economical shipment of its finished products.”
The specific site at the Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park in Marshall County was selected based on its industrial park set-up and the good cooperation offered by the state and county, he said. Rockwool International is the world’s leading producer of stone wool, a fiber-based insulation made from natural stone and recycled material.
